I guess it takes a hurricane..

I guess it takes a hurricane/ tropical storm to get me to make time to blog these days - crossing my fingers that the power stays on long enough for me to finish this post.

I have some fashion updates in my life:

1. I went to the Gilt Groupe Warehouse Sale last week and got a couple awesome deals. It was a little picked over when I got there on early Saturday afternoon, but there was still a lot of deals to be had. The sale was in the Revere Hotel and they had a DJ and cocktails so overall it was a fun shopping experience.

2. I got a killer deal on a pair of Frye boots that I can probably wear until I die at Marshall's. I paid $160 and I pretty sure this style retails for around $350.

3. My next Fall purchase that I am in love with are Rugby riding leggings. I think I may need all three colors...

4. I also have been searching for a new dressy winter coat. I tried on several coats on at several different stores. Not one of them seemed to fit correctly. Finally, in Macy's I had an epiphany to try on petite coats and course it fit perfectly. On the downside, the selection of petite coats at any store is significantly smaller than the normal people's section. I ended up buying a fairly classic black peacoat with a tie waist.

5. I promised I would not buy anymore clothes for a month and instead shop for Christmas gifts - we'll see how long this lasts...

6. I went to work today with glitter still in my hair...I have washed it twice since Saturday when I dressed up as a fairy. Hopefully, the third time is the charm.

Lastly, I have decided that this blog is important outlet for my creative side. Even-though I work in the fashion industry, the focus often turns to numbers over aesthetics.  Therefore, I have a NewYears Halloween/Hurricane Sandy Resolution to blog at least once a week.

Dress I got from Gilt Groupe Sale.

My new Frye boots - can be worn above the knee or rolled down.

I hope our neighbors like glitter (remnants of my Halloween costume) in my apartment hallway.

Fall Accessories + Visual Stimulation Overload

I can not currently write a post on what I want of current fall fashion because it overwhelms me. There is just too much to look at - kind of like the walls that were supposed to be painted in my new apartment before we moved in....

Except I enjoy looking at fall fashion and not the walls in the apartment. Anyways, that is a whole another very long story.

Here are my top picks and what I want as far as fall accessories go. With these statement accessories you won't even need to buy new clothes!

1. The Collar: This will be huge this season. Many shirts are being made with embellished collars, but stores are also selling necklace-like collars. Collars are very trendy and something you would not see anyone wearing a year ago.
H&M Collar $24.50

2. Timeless Scarf:Why not splurge on scarf you can wear forever?? Think a medium weight in neutral colors. You'll pay an extra penny for high-end designer brands, but it will be worth it in the long run. I found this Missoni scarf on Bluefly for about a $100. I am kind of in love and should probably just buy it before it's gone.

Moschino Love $420
3. Riding Boots! Wear on the weekends, to work, and I suppose the stables?
Laughhead- reduced to $85
Tory Burch $495

More fall fashion to come - NYC Fashion week is here!

Boston- 1 month later

I have lived in the Boston area for exactly a month, today. Here is what I have learned about Mass/Boston (some style/fashion oriented, but most not).

1. Preppy style is king (therefore, I fit in pretty well here).
2.  The Cape is the place to be during the summer.
3. It is against the law to sell alcohol in grocery stores (even beer and wine!) - so inconvenient.
4. Driving- I have a lot of musings about Mass driving, here are a few: roads bounce from having 1-2 lanes without warning or white lines, MA roads amazingly are worse than Michigan's and the speed limits are a lot lower! End rant.
5. There is a ton of young people here and plenty of things to do.
6. "Wicked" is acceptable to use in any and every sentence.
7. I can properly pronounce about 25% of Boston suburbs' names.
8. Every girl owns Alex and Ani bracelets.
Alex and Ani Bangle $28

#packingproblems

Where did all this (clothing) come from?!

I have successfully taken over the living room and dining room with trying to split my clothes into three groups that will be delivered at different times - 1) 1 month of clothes to go on the plane with me 2) the rest of summery/ early fall clothes to be taken by a family friend in August and 3) fall/winter clothes that will be put in a storage pod for me to open in Boston at the start of October when I move into my own apartment.

BUT right now it just looks like CHAOS.

Thank you, Abercrombie

Last week I posted my favorite "Call Me Maybe" video. However, today I found a better one for obvious reasons. There is no "maybe" about it - any of these guys can call me ;)

Another kind of shopping

So this week I have been car shopping - I am a little out of my element to say the least. The car lot is no shopping mall and this purchase cannot be made on my debit card. I am normally decisive with my purchases, I know what I like and what I don't. What I want in a car is a: good consumer report rating, sit-up high, good gas mileage, and yes, I do veto cars based on looks. However, it's hard to find a car with all of those qualities and within my price range. Today, my dad asked me if a particular RAV4 was my car and I struggled to answer. And you know what came across my mind today....

Okay, so 32 pairs of Louboutins are completely unnecessary (although absolutely fabulous) and won't get me to work on time (I would probably actually get to work a little slower wearing them). Even buying one pair would be big a purchase for me so no wonder I can't be 100% decisive about a car.

On another note - Victoria Secret Semi- Annual Sale started this morning. I may or may not have been there at 7:30 am....

Black Blazers and phone numbers

A black blazer is a great staple that will not only be good for work with a pair of brightly colored dress pants, but also for a night out on the town with a dark denim. Here are black blazers for every price range.

Side-note: If you didn't know already know the line, The Row , is designed by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. They just recently won the Womenswear Designers of the Year at the 2012 CFDA Awards.  I have always been a fan since Full House days and through all their movies where they go to destinations all over the world, do awesome activities, and get the two cutest boys. Everyone has their flaws, but I am very impressed with how they have dealt with fame thus far and became established designers in the high fashion world (most other celebrities seem to just do commercial fashion).

Anyways back to blazers...

And finally it seems like everyone is doing a cover of "Call Me Maybe," here's the fashionista version (more entertaining then Harvard baseball in my book) by Rebecca Minkoff with Hillary Rhoda and the Man Repeller .

Swim Season

As a million other sources (every single magazine seems to want to find the right suit for my body type or have a bikini workout) it is swim suit season. I am not going to write this post on swim suits, but instead cover-ups. The cover-up can shield your burning body parts, protect you from a chilly breeze, or make you ready to go out to a casual lunch.

Tommy Bahama Boyfriend Shirt

And a beach tote to stash everything in (and currently on sale!) Vineyard Vines Shell Beach Tote

Memorial Day BBQ

Today's occasion is the Memorial Day BBQ Party. Many people consider this to be the first day that one is allowed to wear white with "white" season ending on Labor Day. I am not one of these people (what about Winter Whites?!) However, it is a great time to break out those really summer clothes and yes, many of them are white or the brighter colors.

Free People- I love EVERYTHING they have out for summer right now. This is also my favorite of the 3 looks selected!
J.Crew- You can always count on them for classic casual pieces.
Ann Taylor Loft Maxi Dress is simple and can be re-worn all summer long.

Summer Events and What to Wear to Them

I think nearly everyone can agree that summer is the most exciting time of the year. In my mind a "special event/occasion" means a "special outfit." For the next week I will post everyday a new outfit for a summer occasion.

Shorts from Etsy
Today's occasion is the summer festival. Something I have never really gone to, but really want to attend if not just to wear cool hippie clothes.

Cut-off denim shorts are a summer festival staple. Personally, I like the high-waisted Levi's cut-offs. Several stores will sell vintage cut-offs with variations of dyes, studs, patches, embroidery, etc. Etsy is a great place to find them. However, if you are up for a craft project - this would be a great way to recycle an old pair of jeans! You are basically destroying them so can you really even mess up?

Lucky Brand Bag
Wildfox Couture Tank
Ettika Bracelets
Besides shredded denim, here are the other summer festival staples with some examples: tie-dye, fringe, light weight scarfs, crop tops, maxi dresses, layered jewelry,  friendship bracelets, crochet, leather jackets, and earthy sandals.
Urban Outfitters- Nom De Plume YaYa Grand Maxi Dress
Jack Rogers- Napa Valley Navajo Sandal
